While driving my vehicle between 45 and 60 mph on city streets and rural highways, received a message on my screen stating 'the usb device is consuming excessive power. It may not work correctly with sync. '; but, this is the same device I've been using plugged into the same usb port ever since I bought this vehicle on 07/07/15. I couldn't get this message to clear; but, soon afterwards this message appeared 'navigation fault. Please see the touchscreen' and the touchscreen showed this message 'insert nav sd card'; but, my nav sd card which is an a8 was inserted. Soon after this message appeared the screen went completely dark before it began 'performing scheduled system maintenance'. My vehicle was originally in the shop for this same issue on 07/19, 08/02 and 08/04. During the 07/19 visit the following corrective actions were taken by the dealership: s154 diag, power reset and apim update to software level 15128. Follow-up visit 08/02 included the following corrective actions by the dealership: s154 diag, apim power reset and master reset. Will have to wait until Monday, 08/07 to hear back from the dealership regarding recommended actions to resolve this ongoing issue.

I was driving my 2007 Ford Edge with 3 children in it when all of a sudden I lost the ability to not only accelerate but my speed suddenly fell from 45 miles an hour to 15 miles an hour without any ability to accelerate. My car was in a constant state of shaking and sputtering and increased when applying the brakes. There was something significantly wrong and it was pretty scary to experience particularly with 3 small children. I had the car towed to my automotive service company where the car's software system displayed codes indicating two ignition codes failed. Subsequently, the service provider replaced all the spark plugs and two coils. The car was not fixed and it was further determined that the pcm board is sending extremely high current to the ignition coils and could have caused an engine fire. This is very distressing. Ford has issued an internal TSB acknowledging this issue but has not enacted a recall. The estimated cost to replace the pcm, spark plugs and coils (6) is approximately $3,000. Additionally in my research there is a class action lawsuit that has been filed by a group of Ford owners.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the custom software routine was not reading the correct set of characters, and was not able to identify a bcm. As a result, an electrical short developed and the body control module would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was then informed of a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign number: 11v128000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified but stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 47,000. Kmj.

I purchased a new Ford 2011 Ford Edge in July of 2010 and was extremely pleased with the performance of the car and the sync system. As the end of the year neared, the sync system started acting very erratic, bluetooth disconnecting, navigation sd card failure, maps extremely slow to load and when the car was shutoff the sync did not power down. On then next power up, it would disable bluetooth and not allow navigation system to load. There was a new software update available Feb 2012 that according to the description would solve all these issues. After finally getting it to load on a usb stick from the sync site after multiple tries, I got it done. Also contacted for sync service and they said there are known issues with the download from the sync site. Software was loaded sucessfully in the car and alas, it seemed all my problems were cured. . . . For about 2 days and now the navigation system continues to try loading and then displays sd card fault, really handy when you use this for work. I've been in contact with Ford and they admit there is a software bug in the last release. . . Working for an electronics company, I would say there wasn't much validation done. They said it would be a month before a fix is in place and will mail everyone new sd cards. What a joke! maybe Ford should call apple instead of microsoft.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated the vehicle was equipped with a sync system which controlled the satellite radio, gps navigation, touch screen feature and other functions. While driving various speeds the satellite radio, gps navigation and touch screen feature would not operate. There were also other functions which would not operate within the sync system. The failures were sporadic and a distraction when driving. The voice command would continuously activate whenever the vehicle was in operation which became annoying. There was a recall related to the defect under NHTSA campaign id number 11v128000 (electrical system: software). The dealer stated the part was not currently being produced and they were unable to provide any additional information regarding the arrival date for the recall part. The technician advised the contact to disconnect the battery whenever a failure occurred within the sync system and then reconnect after waiting five minutes. The vehicle was been taken to an authorized dealer three times for the similar defect. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The contact expressed concern of a potential safety hazard. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000. The VIN was unavailable.

After pulling out onto a highway, my car would not accelerate. The engine didn't stop but pressing gas did not help. Was forced to coast to side, car shuddered, then stalled. After waiting a few, car started. Was able to drive it a mile to a nearby repair shop. We were called and advised it was a transmission issue and due to miles on the car, it should be towed to the nearest dealership (under warranty). Ford service could not reproduce the issue. We were told nothing was wrong & to pick it up. Prior to picking up, we found a TSB that described what we had but were told there was nothing wrong. May 2013, car did same but this time, the wrench light came on. Towed (to another Ford service dealer),& issue was found. Repair made. Not surprisingly, issue was same TSB we pulled in 2011. 7 months later, car shuddered, & stalled again. Only difference with this occurrence is now the engine died. Towed back to dealer. Was informed it was the pcm or main computer which caused the ignition coils to burn up. So, in short, owning this car for 2 years, having towed 3 times for the same issue, all in 3 extremely unsafe conditions, has left me with no choice but to file a complaint. This computer software issue is a major safety concern and based on other comments found online, Ford is not willing to take necessary precautions to prevent what could be a saddening fatal situation. This car is not safe to drive and the service department at Ford is not cooperative in resolving the problem. It is a known issue yet no recall has been made. So heartbreaking to see so many that have had this same problem as me and know that nothing is being done. I am paying for this repair but will turn around and sell the car. Won't be my death! never will I purchase a Ford vehicle. The safety of my family is my utmost concern and should also be Ford's but apparently is not. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while parked the contact noticed the sync technology on the touch screen was not functioning properly affecting the air conditioner, radio, cell phone sync, and navigation system. The contact stated he was constantly distracted and looking away from the road to cancel or switch functions on the screen. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing fourteen different times. The technician performed various software updates and replaced the computer three different times but the failure continued. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200.
Failure Date: 01/27/2011
I purchased my 2011 Ford Edge in December of 2010 and have not had a day when there hasn't been a problem with with either the sync or sirius system. I have had my auto serviced six separate times and still have issues. Among these six visits, four involved either recalls or 'full flash reprograms,' in addition to the major software update with the usb Ford sent out. Currently my radio suddenly switches bands, or presets malfunction, and my radio won't turn off without a complicated series of screen adjustments. Also when this happens my memory seat function is disabled and no longer works. I consider these problems not merely cosmetic, but functional safety issues since the service department cannot figure out how the radio/sync issues affect the memory seat function and thus could ultimately affect a more critical auto function and these occur while driving which has caused me momentary disorientation.
